Rosny Park combines an annual cultural program with open green spaces and trails for outdoor activities. History, a variety of exhibition formats and different ways to spend time outdoors all shape the area. Alongside the cultural offerings at Rosny Farm are the open spaces of Rosny Parklands and a section of the Clarence Foreshore Trail.

History and Culture Around Rosny Farm

Rosny Farm is listed on the Tasmanian Heritage Register. Its history dates back to around 1806, when it was established as a land grant to Richard Morgan, a former convict from Norfolk Island. Rosny Farm also offers an annual program of exhibitions, festivals, concerts, performances and school holiday activities. Its early historical origins sit alongside a diverse cultural program. Individual events and dates may vary; if a particular format is important to your trip, check the program for your travel dates.

The Barn at Rosny Farm hosts large-scale contemporary art exhibitions, installations, touring national exhibitions, concerts and performances. The range spans art displays and installations as well as music and stage events. If you’re interested in different forms of culture, you can include both exhibitions and events in your travel plans.

The Schoolhouse Gallery offers a different focus: it presents exhibitions by community art groups, emerging and established professional artists, educational institutions and young people, as well as touring exhibitions. While The Barn focuses on large-scale contemporary art, the range of exhibiting groups is more prominent here. Individual exhibitions change; the range of participants gives you another way to plan your cultural activities.

Green Spaces and Outdoor Trails

Rosny Parklands is an 18-hectare public outdoor area with several green spaces, a variety of tree species and a walking trail. The grounds are now open and grassy; formerly, they were the site of Rosny Golf Course, which closed in 2021. The change from its former use as a golf course to open grassland marks a transformation of the site. As a place to spend time outdoors, the Parklands stands apart from a single trail section thanks to its size and variety of green spaces.

A section of the Clarence Foreshore Trail runs from Kangaroo Bay to Bellerive Beach. It’s suitable for a short, family-friendly walk or bike ride and offers views of yachts in Kangaroo Bay and across the Derwent to Mt Wellington. Here, the focus is on a named route, getting between two places and taking in the views. This makes it easy to choose between the Parklands’ open green spaces and a short scenic outing.

When looking for a hotel in Rosny Park, you can weigh these differences according to what you want to shape your stay: culture and events, time in an open parkland setting, or a short, family-friendly outing with views.
