Lulworth: Coast and discoveries
Accommodation in Lulworth
Lulworth combines a coastal connection with several different reasons to visit. Lulworth Beach forms the more sheltered western end of Tam O'Shanter Bay. Lulworth also offers a family picnic area, an off-road trail, a 9-hole golf course and public art. When planning your trip, it’s therefore worth first choosing your main interest: water, exercise, a picnic together or a visit arranged in advance each makes for a different kind of day.
Coast and water activities
Boating is one of the water-based recreational activities at Lulworth Beach. Surfing is also among the activities in Lulworth. Both water activities are associated with the area, but have different locations: boating is specifically associated with the beach, while surfing is associated with Lulworth as a whole. This distinction can help you plan your outing around your preferred activity. Surf conditions vary, so plan according to current conditions.
There is a car park at Lulworth Beach; check its current availability shortly before your visit. The Old Lulworth Boat Ramp is part of the Lulworth Coastal Reserve. If you plan to use the ramp, it’s a good idea to check current access arrangements in advance.
Open space, trail and golf
The Tam O'Shanter Creek Conservation Area is designated as open space or a park in Lulworth. This adds an open-space option alongside the specific water activities. If you’d like to compare different kinds of activities, there’s the Tam Trail, an off-road trail, and the Tam O'Shanter Golf Course, a 9-hole golf course.
Before setting out, check the current condition of the Tam Trail. If you’re planning a round of golf, it’s a good idea to check whether the Tam O'Shanter Golf Course is currently operating. This will help you choose between the two options based on the kind of activity you’re after: an off-road trail or a nine-hole golf course.
Family picnics and public art
The Lulworth Picnic Area is a family picnic area with a BBQ facility. You can include it in your plans for a shared meal; check the facility’s current availability before your visit.
The mural on the toilet block at the Lulworth Picnic Area also gives the place a distinctive character: painted by Melski McVee, it depicts a Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoo, an Australian Fur Seal and a Tassie Devil. Created in 2022, the mural in Lulworth is part of the Bog Beautiful Public Art Trail. The three animal subjects give the artwork a striking theme, while its place on the trail connects it to Lulworth’s public art.
Plan your visits and tailor your accommodation search
The Fannys Bay Distillery in Lulworth offers Cellar Door and Taste & Talk sessions by prior appointment only. If you’d like to include these sessions in your plans, arrange an appointment in advance and confirm the details before your visit.
Lulworth is also an optional stop on the Cruise the Coast Tour. As the tour’s itinerary may change, check the current route if you want to plan this stop in advance.
The distillery requires an appointment in advance, while Lulworth is an optional stop on the tour. These differences can help you tailor your search to the kind of travel pace you’re looking for.
