Yallingup brings coastal trails, cave history and surf culture together in one travel itinerary. A circular walk passes Ngilgi Cave and Caves House before reaching Yallingup Beach; Rabbit Hill offers a different focus as a surf area in Ngari Capes Marine Park. There are also surf lessons and cultural experiences with Koomal Dreaming. When planning your trip, consider whether hiking, surfing, or the cave and culture will shape your days.

Circular Trails Between Cave, Brook and Beach

The Wardanup Trail is a 6.3-kilometre circular walk around Yallingup. Along the way, it passes Ngilgi Cave and Caves House before returning to Yallingup Beach. The Torpedo Trail is shorter at 3 kilometres and is also a loop: it follows Yallingup Brook to the beach, then climbs the hill on the return. The two trails therefore differ not only in length but also in the landscape features their routes connect.

The Ghost Trail is a short section of the Torpedo Trail. It leads from the historic gardens of Caves House to Yallingup Beach. The trails offer different ways to include the beach and its surroundings in a walk: as a longer loop passing the cave and Caves House, a shorter loop along the brook, or a short section between the garden and the coast. Local trail conditions can change; check them before setting out.

Ngilgi Cave and Caves House: Culture and History

Ngilgi Cave opened for candlelit tours in 1899, when it was still known as Yallingup Cave. The Caves House Group played a different role in the area’s visitor history: from 1902 to 1968, it was owned and developed by the Government of Western Australia to provide accommodation for visitors to Yallingup Cave.

The gardens of the Caves House Group are also noteworthy: they are considered an exceptionally fine example of an Edwardian-era terraced garden. Together with the historic connection between Caves House and the cave, the gardens give the Ghost Trail a cultural point of interest. Those who want to take in not only the beach but also the area’s history on a walk will find a tangible connection here.

Surfing and Cultural Experiences

Rabbit Hill is in the vicinity of Yallingup and is a surf area in Ngari Capes Marine Park. Surf and marine conditions can vary. Yallingup Surf School offers surf lessons and surf guiding; if you plan to take part in either, check the provider’s latest information and the conditions for the day.

Koomal Dreaming’s “Food, Cave and Didgeridoo Tour” includes a didgeridoo song inside Ngilgi Cave. The tour also includes a guided bush walk where local food and medicinal plants are identified. Koomal Dreaming’s immersive tours give visitors to the region the opportunity to experience Aboriginal People’s culture from the perspective of the Traditional Owners. These experiences focus both on tangible impressions—music in the cave and knowledge of plants on the walk—and on cultural perspectives.

Yallingup as a Starting Point for Your Accommodation Search

The two circular trails differ in length and route; surf lessons, the surf area at Rabbit Hill and Koomal Dreaming’s experiences offer further options. If you’re bringing several interests together for one trip, these differences can help you decide which activities will influence your choice of accommodation. Then compare the specific options and their locations with your plans, rather than assuming that any particular accommodation has certain amenities or availability.
