Discover Sorell
Accommodation in Sorell
Sorell offers something for a range of travel interests: the History Rooms explore the district’s history, while the shared path around Orielton Lagoon offers a chance to get active outdoors. The town also has a clear role in route planning: Sorell is the last major stop on the way to Turrakana / Tasman Peninsula and the East Coast. This gives you the option to decide whether to set aside time to learn about local history, enjoy outdoor activities or make a stop along the way.
History at the History Rooms
The History Rooms in Sorell Memorial Hall offer two different perspectives. The north room presents the history of the Sorell district from the early days to the present. Its historical timeline spans different eras, making the room a good introduction to the district’s history. The south room features a themed exhibition that begins with “Toys & Transport”. This provides a specific exhibition focus alongside the historical overview. The exhibition may change over time.
The Sorell History Society also offers a reason to explore local history. It usually meets on the third Thursday of most months at 1:30 pm; visitors are welcome. If you are particularly interested in attending a meeting, check the date in advance. This is the usual schedule for most months, but not without exception. You can plan your visit to fit your travel schedule.
Getting around Orielton Lagoon
The shared path around Orielton Lagoon runs through Sorell and Midway Point. It is suitable for walking, running, scootering and BMX riding. This gives you several ways to enjoy the path: you can plan a walk or choose one of the other listed activities. When planning your day, you can take your preferred activity into account as well as your destination.
Sorell also has skate parks and cycling paths. Together with the path around the lagoon, they broaden the range of recreational activities available locally. As individual facilities may change, check current conditions before visiting.
Planning Sorell as a stopover
Sorell is the last major stop on the way to Turrakana / Tasman Peninsula and the East Coast. If your journey takes you in this direction, this helps you place the town in your itinerary. You can then consider separately what you would like to do in Sorell itself and what role the stop plays in planning the rest of your trip.
If you would like to set aside time for the History Rooms or the Sorell History Society, the cultural attractions will be central to your plans. If you are more interested in being active, the path around Orielton Lagoon, skate parks and cycling paths can shape your plans. If Sorell is mainly a stopover, its position on the way to the Tasman Peninsula and the East Coast is a good starting point for your decision. These different reasons for visiting give you a practical basis for looking for a hotel, without having to squeeze your outings and the rest of your journey into a single plan.
