Accommodation in Malua Bay
Beach time at Malua Bay Beach
Explore Malua Bay through several distinct coastal experiences: Malua Bay Beach has a large grassy reserve, the Munjip Trail runs from McKenzies Beach to Malua Bay, and murals feature cultural themes. You can choose between beach time, a hike and a cultural perspective on the town for your trip.
A large grassy reserve sits beside Malua Bay Beach. There you’ll find picnic tables, barbecue facilities and play equipment for children. These amenities offer more than one way to enjoy your time at the beach: you can plan a break or an outdoor meal, while the play equipment gives children a place of their own. Toilets and showers are available at Malua Bay Beach. As facilities may change, check the current situation before your visit.
Walking and water activities
The Munjip Trail is a 3.2 km walking route from McKenzies Beach to Malua Bay, with McKenzies Beach as the southern starting point. Along the way, the trail passes through bushland, bays, beaches, headlands and rock platforms. The route therefore takes in a variety of landscapes and offers a different focus from a day at the beach. Malua Bay has parking available for walks on the Munjip Trail; follow current signage, as parking rules may change.
When conditions are suitable, you can surf or bodyboard at McKenzies Beach; snorkelling is also possible. Check local conditions before entering the water. These activities depend on local conditions, while the Munjip Trail offers a different focus with its 3.2 km walking route.
Parks, murals and practical information
A project completed in 2024 at Albert Bamman Memorial Park included an expansion of the play area and an observation platform. At Malua Bay Park, Nigel’s murals, “Gadu – Umbarra – Gadu Dreaming”, depict a mullet run, as well as cultural exchange practices in the Yarning Circle. The artwork brings together a natural subject and cultural practices, adding a cultural perspective to the beach and walking experiences.
Beach wheelchairs are available in Malua Bay through Batemans Bay SLSC. Contact the club in advance if you plan to use one during your visit.
Then compare accommodation locations with your own plans. When planning your stay, you can weigh up whether beach time, the hike or the murals will shape your visit most.
