Kiama combines a striking coastal phenomenon with nature trails and a diverse cultural offering. Water spouts of more than 30 metres in height have been recorded at Kiama Blowhole. The blowhole is located at Blowhole Point Road, Blowhole Point, Kiama NSW 2533; several accessible viewing platforms offer views from different perspectives.

Experience the Coast and Nature

The Kiama Coast Walk turns the coastal setting into a route: it runs for about 20 kilometres from the mouth of the Minnamurra River in the north, through the town of Kiama, to Werri Beach in Gerringong in the south. The north–south route offers a different way to experience the coast than the viewing platforms at the blowhole, which provide different angles on a single natural phenomenon.

Bonaira Native Gardens focus on plants and garden paths. They can be explored on foot or by bicycle; one path runs across the forest floor, and signs identify different plant species. Alongside the coastal walk, they offer another way to discover Kiama’s nature, using labelled plants as a guide.

Maritime and Local History

Kiama Lighthouse began operating on 1 January 1887. The Pilot’s Cottage Museum conveys Kiama’s maritime history and offers insights into the lives of the cedar cutters, basalt quarry workers and dairy farmers who settled in the area. In this way, maritime history connects with the people and work that form part of the area’s history.

A brochure for the Kiama Heritage Walk maps the individual historic landmarks in Kiama town centre. The “My Place: A Digital Tour of Kiama” app offers a virtual tour of local highlights. It features 15 attractions and six audio elements; the tour takes about 45 minutes to navigate. The app is available for iPhone, iPad and Android. The brochure and digital tour offer different ways to explore Kiama’s attractions.
