Wellard: Parks, Playgrounds and Trails
Accommodation in Wellard
Explore Wellard through its recreational offerings: at Bullrush Park XL, a tall rope-climbing tower and winding slides sit alongside sand and water play stations; the Kwinana Loop Trail, by contrast, is a 21-kilometre shared path. Playgrounds, barbecue areas, water at Linear Park, as well as workshops and events, add to the options. When planning your trip, consider whether you mainly want to include time for play and parks, a longer trail or a community activity.
Play and Time Outdoors
Bullrush Park, also known as Bullrush Park XL, is on Irasburg Parade in Wellard. Its 8-metre-high rope-climbing tower, winding slides, sand and water play stations, and swings offer a variety of ways to play. Shaded picnic and barbecue areas provide places to take a break. If you’re travelling with children, you can make the different play facilities the focus of a shared outing rather than centring your visit on a single attraction.
A City listing retrieved in September 2026 states that Bullrush Park is open 24 hours a day. If your plans depend on visiting at a particular time, check the latest information beforehand.
The City’s 2020 parks guide lists two playgrounds at Wellard Park, including one suitable for people with disabilities. For Linear Park, the same guide lists two electric barbecue facilities, a pond and a stream that runs through the park to the pond. The two parks therefore offer different features: playgrounds at Wellard Park, and barbecue facilities and a waterway at Linear Park. As park facilities and features can change, check the current situation before visiting.
Trails and Getting Around
The Kwinana Loop Trail is 21 kilometres long and is a shared path for walkers, runners and mountain bikers. Its length and range of users give you practical points to consider when planning your day: decide whether you want to explore the trail on foot, running or by mountain bike, and factor its length into your plans.
The first phase of the gradual upgrade to the Kwinana Loop Trail includes safer connections and improved wayfinding along Runnymede Gate, Wellard Road in Wellard, and Gentle Road. As the project’s status may change over time, check the latest information if these sections are important to your plans.
A route in Kwinana connects the historic Wellard Townsite site on Wellard Road with the agricultural areas of Mandogalup Swamp. Its focus differs from that of the Kwinana Loop Trail: here, the historic connection to the Townsite combines with the agricultural use of the areas around Mandogalup Swamp.
Workshops and Choosing Accommodation
The John Wellard Community Centre runs workshops and events throughout the year. If you’d like to include one in your stay, check the events for your travel dates so you can plan a visit around it.
First decide whether parks and playgrounds, a trail or a particular community event will shape your itinerary.
