Tea Tree is predominantly rural in character. Vineyards and wineries are located in and around Tea Tree in the Coal River Valley; the area offers particularly favourable conditions for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Wine is therefore a distinct focus alongside its rural character.

Wine Experiences with Different Highlights

At the Stargazer Tasting Room, guided wine tastings led by knowledgeable staff are held around a custom-made communal table. Current wines and, occasionally, other special wines are available to taste, with views across the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines of the Palisander vineyard. The address is 37 Rosewood Lane, Tea Tree. Pressing Matters offers wine by the glass and a small selection of food at its vineyard; the address is 711 Middle Tea Tree Road.

Visits to the Charles Reuben Estate cellar door are by appointment. Guests can learn about winemaking and distillation. Merriworth Wines is a family-run boutique producer of premium cool-climate wines in Tea Tree. Visitors can taste current wines while enjoying vineyard views; check the latest visitor arrangements before your visit.

When comparing options, the main consideration is the experience you want: a guided tasting at a communal table, wine by the glass with a small selection of food, or an appointment-based introduction to winemaking and distillation. This lets you tailor the wine part of your stay to your travel group’s interests.

Culture and Landscapes in Brighton Council

Pontville, a significant colonial-era village, lies within the Brighton Council area. Its colonial architecture includes sandstone churches, a convict-built bridge, hotels, grand homes and workers’ cottages. St Mark’s Church in Pontville is a Romanesque sandstone building designed by convict architect James Blackburn and completed in 1841.

An augmented reality experience at the former Brighton Army Camp brings the site’s stories to life. These include Tasmania’s first commercial flights, trade between Aboriginal groups, training for the Second World War, the accommodation of Italian prisoners of war and Eastern European refugees, temporary shelter for Tasmanians after the 1967 bushfires, and refuge for Kosovars during the Balkan War.

The Tea Tree Golf Club is also in the Brighton municipality. Its 9-hole course is set in a scenic, semi-rural landscape; the club was founded in 1929. The Jordan River Trail is an easy walking track along the Jordan River that includes a detour through the historic precinct of Pontville.

The Bridgewater Foreshore Trail follows the banks of the Derwent River around Bridgewater and Green Point to the East Derwent Highway Bridge. The flat wetlands along the shore are home to a variety of birdlife, including black swans, cormorants, pelicans and white-faced herons. These different landscape and cultural experiences complement Tea Tree’s wine offerings, without requiring every traveller’s interests to fit the same kind of outing.
