Kettering combines coastal bushland, sweeping water views and walking tracks with different time commitments. From the Kettering Point Track, the panorama stretches across the D’Entrecasteaux Channel to Bruny Island; the Manuka Hills Track also offers views of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. For a walk, there are two circuit options: 1 km with a walking time of 30 minutes, or 3 km with a walking time of one hour.

Coastal walks and nature along the way

The Kettering Point Track is an easy coastal walk through lightly wooded coastal bushland. It offers panoramic views of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island. Birds, orchids and wildflowers can be seen along the track. Aboriginal people’s shell middens are also visible there, giving the route a cultural dimension alongside its landscape and nature observations.

As a circuit, the Kettering Point Track is 3 km long and takes one hour to walk. A section of the Kettering Point Track connects Kettering Point with Trial Bay. As track conditions can change, check them before your visit.

For a shorter circuit, the Oval Track offers a different time commitment: the circuit is 1 km long and takes 30 minutes on foot. It passes through the Kettering Bushland Garden into the bushland behind the Kettering Oval, then follows the coast to a seat overlooking Little Oyster Cove.

At 1 km, the Oval Track is shorter than the 3 km Kettering Point Track; its 30-minute walking time is half the hour stated for the longer circuit. This gives you two distinct combinations to choose from: the Kettering Point Track combines coastal bushland, panoramic views and wildlife observations along the way, while the Oval Track brings together a garden, bushland and views of Little Oyster Cove.

A forest track with distant views

The Manuka Hills Track offers a different perspective: it passes through threatened silver peppermint forest and offers views of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and kunanyi/Mt Wellington. This threatened forest type sets the track apart from the two coastal circuits, while its views of the water and mountain reveal another layer of the landscape.

Ferry connection and culture

Bruny Island also plays a practical role in trip planning beyond the panoramic views: the SeaLink Bruny Island ferry takes about 15 minutes from Kettering to Bruny Island. Check the journey time and operating details before travelling. This makes the view of the island from the Kettering Point Track distinct from the ferry connection, which takes you to Bruny Island.

Kettering Concerts presents six to seven chamber music concerts each year. If you would like to include a concert in your trip, check the current program. Oyster Cove Marina is located in Little Oyster Cove in Kettering, on the D’Entrecasteaux Channel.
