Kurri Kurri offers a range of reasons to visit: murals, a memorial, historic sites and a bushland walk, as well as an annual festival. The Kurri Kurri Aquatic and Fitness Centre and the Hunter Valley Way self-drive route are also specific options. When planning your trip, you can first consider whether you’re more interested in a guided tour, exploring on your own, history, nature or the festival.

Explore murals on a guided or self-guided tour

There are two ways to explore the murals. Groups can take a guided tour with a local guide; booking is required. For a self-guided tour, visitors can get a mural map from the Kurri Kurri Visitor Centre. Check the map’s availability before your visit and confirm the arrangements for a guided tour. The practical difference is the format: the guided tour is a group activity, while the map lets you follow the mural tour yourself. This means you can decide during your planning which way of exploring you prefer.

Remembrance and historic sites

The Hill 60 First World War Memorial is in Kurri Kurri’s Rotary Park. It commemorates the service of the First Australian Tunnelling Company at Hill 60 in Belgium during the First World War. The location and the historic site should be clearly distinguished: the memorial is in Kurri Kurri, while the service it commemorates took place at Hill 60 in Belgium.

The Kurri Kurri Heritage and Nature Walk passes several historic buildings along Lang Street, as well as Rotary Park and Log of Knowledge Park. It also includes a bushland walk along the old Richmond Vale Railway. While the mural tour focuses on the murals, this walk combines historic sites with a section through nature. Check track conditions locally.

Festival and leisure activities

The annual Kurri Kurri Nostalgia Festival celebrates 1950s and 1960s rock ’n’ roll, classic cars, hot rods, fashion, music and dance. Its themes therefore range from vehicles and fashion to music and dance. If the festival is the reason for your visit, check the dates of upcoming editions separately.

The Kurri Kurri Aquatic and Fitness Centre is open daily all year round. Check before your visit whether any temporary changes apply. Unlike the annual festival, the Centre is an option that’s open daily throughout the year for your plans; it offers a different focus from murals, historic sites and walks.

Kurri Kurri on the self-drive route

The Hunter Valley Way self-drive route passes through Kurri Kurri. If you’re planning a drive along this route, check current road conditions and the route before setting off. This lets you tailor your route planning to the specific journey, while in Kurri Kurri itself you can choose from the available mural, history, nature and event themes.
