Kalkite on Lake Jindabyne
Accommodation in Kalkite
Kalkite lies on the northern shore of Lake Jindabyne, and the lake is the focal point of the village. In the centre, Taylors Creek Arm forms a bay. This gives the village two specific geographical features: the lake as a central landmark and the bay in the middle of the village. If you’re looking for a holiday destination with a clear connection to the water, these features provide a good starting point when choosing where to stay.
A planned trail network by the lake
The Lake Jindabyne Shared Trail Project aims to create a trail network of about 50 kilometres along the southern half of the lake. It is intended for mountain bikers, walkers and trail runners, and will include Kalkite as a link in the network. The plan includes a section of about 13.5 kilometres between East Jindabyne and Kalkite. The roughly 50 kilometres refer to the larger network, while the 13.5 kilometres refer to this individual section—two different scales to help you get your bearings.
For Kalkite, the project предусматривает a trailhead and parking areas to provide access to the route. The planned shared trail is intended for walking, running and cycling in both directions. These details describe a proposal, not a completed trail. When planning your trip, it’s therefore important to distinguish clearly between the existing boat ramp and the planned trail network.
Boat ramp and past events
The village has an existing boat ramp on the shore of Lake Jindabyne. During the Australian Fly-Fishing Championships, held from 19 to 22 November 2025, it served as the meeting point for Sector I. This sector was selected for shore-style boat fishing at Kalkite on Lake Jindabyne during the championships. If you’re considering using the ramp for your own plans, check the current access conditions in advance.
The Sri Chinmoy Multi-Sport Classic also started in Kalkite on Lake Jindabyne: the event was held there for the 16th time on 3 March 2024. The two examples show the village’s different roles in specific sporting events— in 2024 as the starting point for a multisport event, and in 2025 as the location of a boat-fishing sector and a meeting point at the ramp. These details relate to those editions; check dates for any future trip separately.
Choosing Kalkite as your base
Jindabyne town centre is the nearest service centre, about a 20-minute drive from Kalkite. This gives you two points of reference when choosing a base: the lake as Kalkite’s focal point and the service centre in Jindabyne. If you plan to drive there during your stay, allow for the approximate journey time; it may vary depending on conditions.
